– THE THREE MONKEY PLAQUE –

2012 NERO AWARD WINNER:

* The State of  North Carolina – House Bill 819 *

Lake Oswego, Oregon – August 2, 2012 The Climatebull today announced the winner of the 2012 NERO Award competition honoring the ultimate in willful ignorance, willful blindness, and willful abdication of responsibility–as well as a deep disregard for best practice regarding the changing climate.

The Three Monkey Plaque, which represents the NERO Award, celebrates those on the cutting edge of catastrophe, who once informed of impending disaster, ignore it. An award given to the person or group who best represents the worst in foresight; it should come as no surprise that the legislators who passed HOUSE BILL 819 for the state of North Carolina have been named our Nero Award winners for 2012.

Everyone involved in HOUSE BILL 819, from the lobbyists of NAR to the committees who volunteered pretense, ignorance, and their time went all out in their support of this abomination of our governmental practices. Campaigns earned hundreds from across the US and internationally. As a result, lobbyists stepped up and volunteered to help make North Carolina this year’s monument to ignorance.

This year over 75 entries were considered from all 50 states and 21 countries including, India, Australia, Canada, Spain, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, People’s Republic of China, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The founder of the NERO Award stated, “The honor of the NERO Award is well deserved by public officials in the state of North Carolina who have voted to hobble clarity, best practice, and risk assessment by passing HOUSE BILL 819. It was also noted that for some reason no one derailed efforts to make science an outlaw. This is the chief reason for the state legislators’ receipt of the award. Honorable mention, The Jellyfish Award, goes to the Governor of that state providing North Carolina with a clean sweep of the awards.”

Those winning these awards will be in the company of others regarded internationally as the worst offenders of civic responsibility, environmental stewardship, and questionable insight. To be selected these days is a unique honor, considering the hundreds of corrupt politicians, shill think tanks, amoral corporations, vapid industry associations, and non-profit organizations eligible for the award.

The annual award is named for the Roman Emperor chartered with leadership of his republic, who ignored its ruin. The NERO Award symbolizes a spirit of self-delusion and corruption once rarely seen in our modern world. Now endemic, it is therefore even more amazing that a voting majority of a state legislature could rise above the crop of this year’s grifters. “It is a remarkable accomplishment: The neglect, the stupidity, and the outright buffoonery of the individuals involved in passing HOUSE BILL 819 is sure to be seen by future generations as a turning point in the tragedy of anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance. The Climatebull is proud to provide clarity for future generations,” said a spokesperson for The Climatebull.

NOTE: The awards ceremony has not yet been scheduled, though possible venues under consideration include the National Association of Realtors, the Federal Emergency Management Agency  Swift Water Training School, the North Carolina Scuba Teaching Association, the Marine Salvage Association, and the National Climate Data Center (NCDC) of Asheville, North Carolina. Administrators for US Department of Commerce, the controlling organization of National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association–as well as NCDC–were not contacted for comment.

The Climatebull established the annual NERO Award competition in 2012. A program founded to declare that chaos has no bounds.
